What is Blue Cross Pet Sponsorship?
Sponsors give from £3 a month to help look after pets in our rehoming centres while we find them permanent homes with loving new owners.
What does my sponsorship money buy?
Your donation goes towards helping all the pets in our care, not just the one you have picked. Your generous donations will help fund everyday items, like beds, food, exercise and toys. Your monthly gift means we can ensure pets are vaccinated, microchipped, wormed, neutered and receive any other veterinary treatment they need. Plus, your donations will help fund tailor made training and behaviour support for pets who haven’t had the best start to life and need extra TLC to help get them ready for their new homes.
What makes Blue Cross sponsorship different?
As a Blue Cross sponsor, you are helping unwanted and abandoned cats and dogs in our rehoming centres to find happy new forever homes. It may take days, weeks or months to rehome a pet, so you may sponsor many different pets along the way.
What’s really exciting is that you get the chance to help many pets – rather than just one. We’ll also keep you updated every step of the way with monthly emails, so you’ll be one of the first to know when they’re rehomed.
Will I receive anything in the post?
You will receive a welcome pack in the post, but after that you will get regular emails and downloadable factsheets and certificates, which means that more of your money goes to the pets you love.
It seems as if I get a new pet nearly every month. Why?
This is because your sponsored pets have been rehomed – after all, it’s what we’re here for. We believe every pet deserves a healthy life in a happy home and we do all we can to make this happen in as short a time as possible. If you are getting a new pet every month it’s good news – it means we are managing to find new homes for more pets who desperately need them.
You may also find that some pets will take longer to rehome. This could be because they have health or behavioural problems which we need to help them through before they are rehomed, or it may be that they are simply being overlooked because they are a less popular breed, like a Staffordshire bull terrier, or are a little bit older. Finding homes for some pets may only take a few weeks but others need more care and attention before they are ready to leave us.
Will anyone else sponsor my pet?
People can choose to sponsor the same pet as you – some can be very popular.
What do sponsors receive?
You will get a welcome pack in the post as well as an email with a photograph, message from your pet and a certificate which you can download and print. You’ll receive regular news by email about what your pet has been up to, including whether he or she has been rehomed.
What happens when my sponsored pet is rehomed?
That’s great news! It means another healthy pet has found a loving new home. We will let you know by email, and tell you all about your new sponsored pet. We will automatically choose this pet for you, but the email will include a link to all our pets who need sponsors – so if you’d like to choose a different one, you can.
Can I visit my sponsored pet?
No. This is a new venture for us. If it’s a real success (which we hope it is) there could be lots of people wanting to visit their sponsored pets so we need to make sure we are able to cope with the demand. Also, some pets are not able to accept visitors because they are distressed or poorly.
How does sponsorship work?
Choose the pet you’d like to sponsor. Read all about the pet, click the ‘sponsor’ button, fill in all your details and set up your regular gift from £3 a month by direct debit. You’ll get a confirmation email and a welcome email – with a certificate and pet profile you can download and print. Soon after you’ll also receive a welcome pack in the post.
When does my sponsorship end?
Your sponsorship continues helping pet after pet, as long as your direct debit remains active. We hope you won’t, but if you are thinking of cancelling please call 0300 790 9903 or email [email protected].
Can I sponsor more than one pet?
There is no limit on the number of pets you can sponsor but you will need to set up a separate Direct Debit for each one.
Why can’t I sponsor horses or rabbits, guinea pigs rats, degus etc?
This is a new project for us – we are offering dog and cat sponsorship initially with a view to including other pets in future
Can I sponsor a pet as a gift for someone else?
Yes! Blue Cross sponsorship is the perfect present for animal lovers. Sponsor a pet as a gift for your loved one from as little as 96p a week, and they will receive monthly updates from real homeless pets in our care who are just waiting to meet their new families. Your chosen friend or family member will also receive a downloadable certificate from each of the dogs and cats.
