Little Poppet would love a home of her own

Leading pet charity, Blue Cross is calling out to animal lovers to find a new loving home for a beautiful tortoiseshell cat called Poppet.

Little Poppet was found abandoned last July. She had been ditched in a plastic bag with her two litter mates at only about 10 days old. They were taken to Prince Bishop Vets in Consett but sadly one kitten had already died and the other died shortly afterwards. Blue Cross Volunteer Foster Carer, Barbara Mavin stepped in to care for Poppet who was thought to be just 10 days old and needed to be hand-fed to win her fight for survival.

Michelle Smith, Blue Cross Regional Fostering Manager, said: “Poppet has been a real fighter. Due to her poor start in life she has been through some hard times but has now pulled through and become a lovely, friendly cat who just wants someone to love her. It is thanks to Barbara and her dedication to all the cats in her care that we have been able to save Poppet and get her ready to start a new life in a loving home.”

Blue Cross Volunteer Foster Carers in the County Durham area are currently caring for over 25 homeless and abandoned kittens and cats. The charity is calling out to animal lovers who may be able to offer a loving home to a homeless cat to visit www.bluecross.org.uk to find out more and see images of the local pets looking for homes.

Blue Cross runs a network of volunteers who provide foster care for homeless and unwanted cats across the UK. Volunteers are supported with training, veterinary costs for the cats in their care and special equipment including special ‘cat chalet’ accommodation in their garden, unused garage or spare room.

If you are interested in giving a home to any of the cats and kittens in our care, or would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer foster carer for homeless and unwanted cats in the area please contact Pat Kingsnorth on 0300 777 1922 or email [email protected] for more information.

Blue Cross receives no government funding and relies on the generous support of the public to continue its vital work helping unwanted, homeless, sick and injured pets. To find out more or to make a donation visit www.bluecross.org.uk
