Blue Cross pet food bank donation points now in every Pets at Home

Every single Pets at Home store across the UK now hosts a donation point for Blue Cross pet food banks, meaning fewer people will be faced with the choice between feeding themselves or feeding their pets.

Pets at Home customers can now donate food and other pet items at their local shop, which will go directly to help pet owners in their local community through the cost of living crisis.

Clare Robertson, Blue Cross Community Project Lead, said: “From one pet lover to another, your generosity reaches far into your local communities.”

The country-wide roll out follows a successful trial across 200 Pets at Home stores which began in October last year. To celebrate, Pets at Home has committed to match all donations made in-store between Friday 9 and Sunday 11 June, up to a total of £100,000.

Angela, who received food for her dogs and cat thanks to the scheme, says it has made a real difference: “I never imagined myself having to be in a position where I would rely on a foodbank.

“Before finding the foodbank, I would go without to ensure my children and pets were fed. It’s difficult to find pet food in a foodbank, they struggle to get the supply is my understanding, so when I went in the last time and was offered three weeks’ worth of supply of food for my dogs and cat I just burst out crying because it seemed like a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Blue Cross and Pets at Home believe pets belong with the people who love them, and this partnership will help prevent owners from having to part with their much-loved pets due to financial reasons.

“As the UK continues to experience a rapid rise in the cost of living, more pet owners are facing difficult choices as their finances become stretched. In some cases, people are having to consider giving up their pet because they simply cannot afford to continue feeding and caring for them as they have in the past. Blue Cross and Pets at Home believe no one should have to face this heartbreaking choice,” says Amy Angus, Charity and Community Manager at The Pets at Home Foundation.

“This is why we are joining forces to deliver a Nationwide Pet Food Bank Service, to make sure no pet goes hungry and to help keep them at home where they belong, with their families. Our mission is simple, to help pet owners provide the best care for their beloved pets and to stand with them when they need that little extra support.”

To donate, visit a collection point at your nearest Pets at Home store. Each and every donation will help keep pets with their families in your local community.
