You are here:
Welcome to Burford rehoming centre which is based in west Oxfordshire. We always have dogs, cats, rabbits, small animals and horses looking for loving new homes.
Burford horse rehoming site is temporarily closed. The small animal centre for dogs, cats and small pets remains open as usual.
We have ‘strangles’ (Streptococcus Equi) on site with several poorly ponies. We are working closely with our vet practice, and because this is a highly infectious disease we need to continue to be super careful and keep them isolated from each other while we monitor them all. We have restricted access to the horse site to prevent potential further spread of this bacteria.
When helping horses and ponies from so many varied backgrounds, this is something that can happen from time to time, so we are prepared and have protocols in place to manage it.
So, for the time being, we are not able to have any visitors into the horse yard or the second hand tack shop.
Thank you for bearing with us as we work hard to get the centre up and running again.
The small animal rehoming centre will continue to remain open and this disease does not affect other species of animals or humans.
We will post updates on Facebook, and please check the website to see when we are open again.
We opened in 1990 and have facilities for 25 dogs, 21 cats, 14 rabbits and other small pets. We also have numerous paddocks and stables to care for up to 60 horses.
Our Rehoming Team is dedicated to finding the right pet for you. If you are interested in a pet on our website please complete a rehoming form in the first instance, you can find this on the pet’s profile page. So we can understand the type of pet you are looking for please do call us first if you would like to arrange a visit.
To see which pets are available on our website please scroll down to choose a species or visit our ‘rehome a pet’ page. You can see pets available at all our locations or narrow your search more locally. Our pages are updated regularly so please keep visiting them.
Please note that at our Burford centre, we run a closed cattery and kennels which means they are not open for public viewing.
Our Home Direct Scheme is for dogs, cats, horses, rabbits and other small pets whose owners can sadly no longer keep them but don’t need to find them a new home straight away. Pets stay in their existing home until a new owner is found for them. All pets go through our careful assessment and matching process.
Become a volunteer short term foster carer for pets at Blue Cross and help improve the welfare of the animals in our care. As a volunteer foster carer you will look after needy animals in your own home while they are recuperating from operations or illness, or young kittens or puppies until they are able to find a permanent new home. If you live within 45 minutes of the centre and are interested in this rewarding volunteer role, please email [email protected]
There is now a new bus stop right outside the centre. The 233 service operates between Woodstock and Burford.
