Heavily pregnant Mini gives birth safely

Heavily pregnant and about to give birth any day, Mini found herself in Blue Cross care.

The two-year-old cat was put under close monitoring at our Victoria animal hospital after tests revealed that she had some health concerns.

Amanda Rumball, London Welfare Officer, explains: “Mini was open mouth breathing, very unsettled and twitching. This all indicated low calcium levels and blood tests confirmed this. Treatment was started straight away. She also needed to go on a course of eye drops as she had a superficial eye ulcer as well.”

As Mini was quite poorly, our Veterinary Team thought she’d need a C-section, but she went on to have four healthy kittens naturally at the special cat maternity facilities at our Hertfordshire rehoming centre.

Given the upheaval she’s experienced in the last few weeks, Mini is understandably very frightened and wary around our team. They’re making daily progress when gaining her trust, but it’s a slow process – and lots of the care she needs has to be given at a distance.

But her kittens – named Kia, Polo, Aston and Astra – are all doing well. Once they’re old enough, we’ll find new homes for them where they’ll always know love.
