Puppy tied to lamppost is safe now

A puppy who was found tied to a lamppost has now been found a loving home by Blue Cross.

The 10-month-old boxer-cross was picked up by the local dog warden and admitted to our Burford rehoming centre in Oxfordshire in April where the team called him Boris.

Nobody knows why Boris was abandoned this way, but we're seeing more and more pets left in similar sad circumstances as the cost of living crisis deepens in the UK.

Luckily he was healthy and just needed flea and worming treatment and some training work before he was put up for rehoming.

And it wasn’t long before Boris caught the eye of his new owner.

Anouska Ashmead-Bartlett, Animal Welfare Assistant at Blue Cross Burford, says: “Poor Boris was found tied up in the cold and rain all by himself.

"Luckily we had a space to bring him into the centre as he needed shelter and had nowhere else to go.

“Boris loves being with you and having lots of attention. He will try and find the biggest stick that he can on a walk and carry it around with him."

Anouska adds: "We’re so happy to have found him a loving new home so quickly and we’ve had some lovely updates from his owner who has said he helps him to go out and do more, and walk with his neighbour and her dog.”

Boris’s new owner Andy, who lives in Wiltshire, says: “I've been type-one diabetic for 56 years and my blood pressure was averaging 150/80 after I lost my previous dog - she'd been with me for almost 15 years.

“Boris was bigger than I'd anticipated but on our first meet the first thing he did was to sit on my feet and look up at me and that was that!

“In the month he has been with me, my blood pressure has dropped and is now averaging 122/65, quite remarkable for a diabetic and I can only thank Boris and the team at Blue Cross at Burford for this.”
