Blue Cross presents J A Wight Memorial Award to Paula Boyden

Paula Boyden with the J A Wight award and certificate

Blue Cross has presented Paula Boyden with the J A Wight Memorial Award for her sustained commitment to companion animal welfare.

The award, which is presented annually at the British Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress and sponsored by Blue Cross, is in memory of Alf Wight, the much loved author of the enduringly popular James Herriot novels.

Neil Smith, Blue Cross Trustee, presented Paula with her prize at a special event in April.

Paula, Veterinary Director at Dogs Trust, was recognised not only for her work helping homeless dogs – which goes well beyond the requirements of her job - but also for her invaluable work with the Links Group; an organisation working to promote understanding among professionals of the links between the non-accidental injury of children, vulnerable adults and animals.

Pets have relied on Blue Cross since 1897 and our hospitals, pet care clinics and rehoming services help over 40,000 sick, injured and homeless animals every year.
