Blue Cross presents J A Wight Memorial Award to Rebeca Garcia Pinillos
Blue Cross has presented Rebeca Garcia Pinillos with the J A Wight Memorial Award for her outstanding contribution to the welfare of companion animals.
Rebeca, who qualified as a vet at the University of Zaragoza, completed a PhD at the University of Reading and is a diplomate of the European College of Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine.
She has worked in general practice and veterinary government work since 2001, joining Defra as Veterinary Adviser in 2008, and has also volunteered with exotic animals and lecturing on animal welfare in a number of different countries.
The award, which is presented annually at the British Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress and sponsored by Blue Cross, is in memory of Alf Wight, the much loved author of the enduringly popular James Herriot novels.
Blue Cross Chairman, Tim Porter, presented Rebeca with her prize at a special event earlier this month.
Rebeca is the Animal Welfare Rep and Junior Vice-President of the Association of Government Vets and founder of the One Welfare World initiative, launching a global consultation to define and create a One Welfare framework as a complement to One Health.
