In memory of an animal lover

The family and friends of a lifelong animal lover have made a generous donation to Blue Cross in his memory.

Arthur Thomas Worrall from Torrington, Devon, passed away in June at the age of 88 and £400 has since been raised in his name for pets in need.

A keen rider, Mr Worrall joined the Blues and Royals at Horse Guards at the age of 17 and later went on to become part of the Metropolitan Police’s Mounted Branch where he worked for 30 years.

On retirement, he even took his beloved police horse with him and was riding up to the age of 75.

Mr Worrall’s wife, Myra, said: "Arthur loved all animals, especially horses and birds.

"When he retired 35 years ago, we moved to Devon. He was the first to be able to take his police horse, Anne, with him. She bred two wonderful foals and lived until she was 28 years old.

“Arthur also had a lovely collection of birds over the years including pheasants, pigeons, parakeets, geese, ducks and peacocks. He loved nature and being outdoors.

"He was still riding at the age of 75 and cared for his birds until recently. Sadly he died on June 17, two days after our 40th wedding anniversary.”

Mrs Worrall added: "We all miss him very much and hope that his memory will continue with the help this £400 will give to animals.”

We are so grateful for the generosity of Mr Worrall’s friends and relatives, which will help us be there for sick, injured or homeless dogs, cats, horses and small animals.
