Calling all canines and humans of Torbay: Blue Cross Oddicombe Dog Day returns

Sunday 15 April 2018 is the unmissable date for diary this year as Blue Cross pet charity hosts its annual dog day at Oddicombe beach. The event has repeatedly attracted more than a hundred of Devon’s dogs, owners and spectators who’ve enjoyed celebrating the wonderful Dog Day Out.

As many of Devon’s beaches ban our canine chums during the summer season, the Dog Day, now in its 11th year, allows dogs to make the most use of the sand and surf before this happens. This year, the Torbay centre also celebrates its 30th birthday and 30 years of helping the homeless pets of Devon.

Family-favourite competitions returning will be a series of agility courses, races and dog shows, including the tricky ‘temptation alley’ – a series of challenges to test even the most faithful hound.

The Blue Cross rehoming centre in Torbay is most known for rehoming cats on-site, but the team want to showcase that it’s not just cats looking for homes through the centre, the Torbay team also rehome dogs and small animals though its Home Direct scheme which enables a swift and stress-free move from the animal’s previous home to its new home.

All money raised on the day will go towards to care of homeless pets and making sure they are able to live the happiest life whilst waiting for their new families.

Pooches being entered into the prestigious dog show will have the chance to win prizes in the classes including Best Rescue Dog, Cutest Puppy, Waggiest Tail and Loveliest Lady.

Kelly Hennequin, Volunteer Coordinator at Torbay Blue Cross, said: “It’s no secret that this is one of the best days of the year for us. We always look forward to Oddicombe Dog Day and we can’t wait to meet even more dogs and their loving owners, all coming together to help sick, injured and homeless pets in the care of our charity. We couldn’t do the work we do if it wasn’t for the support of our community.”

Blue Cross will also have animal behaviourists on-hand to answer all your dog-related questions.

Registration starts at 11:00am and costs £2 per dog. All entrants will receive a free goody bag (one per family, while stocks last). There is also a £1 entry charge per class in the dog show, with rosettes for the top five in each category and a prize bag for the winner.
