Special home wanted for special neglected dog
A dog who has suffered appalling neglect needs help to find a special home with a special someone.
Because of her sad past, this sweet girl is an extremely timid and nervous dog who needs someone she can trust totally.
Ellen Myring, Animal Welfare Assistant at Blue Cross Hertfordshire rehoming centre, where Sellie is being cared for, said: “We’d love to find Sellie the special home she deserves. It took us three weeks to be able to go anywhere near her without her running away from us. But we’ve taken each day as it comes, encouraging her gently and slowly to start trusting us, and after lots of perseverance, she now does.”
Sellie befriended other dogs at our centre, and they have helped her to overcome her anxieties. The scared dog carefully watched her canine pals interact with our rehoming centre team and saw that we were kind and trustworthy.
Each day, Selma grew in confidence, to the point where she now comes bounding over for a fuss.
“This is a miracle for us!” Ellen added. “Nervous dogs who have been neglected, like Sellie, can take time to learn to trust new people, so it’s essential that potential owners visit their soon-to-be dogs at our centre several times before taking them home.”
Sellie is looking for a new owner who understands that neglected dogs need time and patience to overcome their worries. She finds being left alone very stressful, so someone who is around for most of the day would be her perfect match. Sellie is much more confident when she is around other dogs, and she would love to live with a canine friend.
