Black and white cat Teddy half way down a blue step

Feline trio get fresh start

A trio of cats who suddenly found themselves homeless have been given a fresh start by Blue Cross.

Teddy, Griffin and Monty came to us in sad circumstances when their owners found themselves in crisis and unable to care for them.

But the striking black and white cats have a chance at a new life.

After so much upheaval already in their lives, our Sheffield rehoming unit's priority was to get them settled in a safe and consistent place as soon as possible.

With space available at Blue Cross Thirsk, one of our volunteer drivers carefully transported the group of cats to the rehoming centre in North Yorkshire.

Managing their stress levels has been crucial, explains Joe Cummins, Assistant Manager – Client Services at Blue Cross Thirsk.

“They’ve already had quite a lot to contend with,” he points out.

“When cats go through that significant change, it can damage their relationships.”

When the youngest of the cats – 19-month-old Teddy – started to struggle with the trauma of the move, our team quickly made sure to help support him.

“Overall, they seem quite hardy through all this change but Teddy had a bit of a shift in behaviour and became more stressed,” adds Joe.

“We’ve been keeping tabs on him constantly as he’s a bit more hesitant with unfamiliar people.”

All three of the cats were given veterinary care, including flea and worming treatments and vaccinations.

But for four-year-old Griffin, ongoing tummy upsets meant our vets suspected he might have inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Poor Griffin also needed extra dental treatment to sort out his gum disease and tartar build up on his teeth.

“Griffin is on a gastro-sensitive food now and he’s had a dental extraction too,” explains Joe.

Healing after having one of his premolar teeth extracted under anaesthetic, Griffin was given plenty of dedicated care.

The gorgeous cats built their confidence ready to start afresh and after two months in Blue Cross care, Monty found a lovely new home, while Teddy moved to his new pad a few weeks later with Griffin following shortly after.
