Abandoned cat's miracle survival
Limp and lifeless, Finsbury was hanging onto life by a thread.
Her condition was so grave that, when she was first carried through the doors of our Victoria animal hospital, our reception team initially feared she was dead – until she let out a tiny cry.
Once in our emergency clinic, tests soon confirmed she was critically ill but somehow clinging on.
The black and white cat had been abandoned inside a cat carrier in the middle of Finsbury Park, north London, on an unseasonably cold day of heavy rain and hail in late March.
Thankfully, she was found lifeless and freezing by a kind passerby and brought to Blue Cross in the nick of time.
Amanda Rumball, London Welfare Officer, explains: “By the time she was found and brought to the hospital, she was collapsed and soaked, with hypoglycaemia [low blood sugar], hypothermia and an upper respiratory infection.
“She was also covered in live and dead fleas with poor coat condition that has caused fur loss and scabs over her body.
“We thought she had already passed away but then she gave a little cry to let us know she was hanging on.”
We immediately took Finsbury into intensive care, giving her much-needed warmth and medication to give her a fighting chance at survival.
Amanda continues: “She recovered quickly, which really was a miracle given how serious her condition was when she arrived.
“Despite everything she has been through, she is now a little chatterbox, loves attention and just wants to be loved.”
And love was exactly what she found after just 34 days in our care.
Her new owner describes her as "feisty and brave" but adoring of attention from anyone she meets.
"She's the queen of the world," he adds.
