Karma’s looking for a place of her own
Earlier this year, Karma found herself at our Victoria animal hospital in central London, hours away from giving birth to her litter.
Despite the upheaval she was enduring, she gave birth to eight healthy pups and the new family were swiftly transferred to our Bromsgrove rehoming centre. Animal Welfare Assistant, Caroline Oram, didn't hesitate to step in to foster Karma and provide the round-the-clock care that the new mum and her puppies so desperately needed.
Karma was a doting mum and, after a few months, her puppies all found loving, new homes.
But Karma still needed our continued support.
“It can be difficult when puppies leave their mum”, explains Caroline Oram, Animal Welfare Assistant. “Especially when, like Karma, we don’t have much information about her life before Blue Cross.
“She had a period of adjustment and found it hard to be on her own when her puppies left. Since being with me, she hasn’t known it without them and finds it hard to be left on her own.”
But Caroline, as Karma’s devoted carer, has gradually built up the time that Karma is left on her own. She’s also been busy introducing her to other dogs to make sure that she’s ready for a new family in the not-so-distant future.
“She is doing really well. She can be quite sensitive and is cautious of some people she doesn't know, so we have been doing slow and gentle meets if this happens. But, once she know you, she loves you! ”
For Caroline, Karma’s success is bittersweet.
“We have been on such a journey together – she trusted me from day one to take care of her and her babies, and I knew I had to ensure they all had everything they needed to thrive.
“I’m so incredibly blessed I got to do that with her and watch them grow into happy, healthy puppies. And watch Karma thrive in an environment where she knew she was so loved and safe. I will miss her lots, but I’m glad we could help her.”
Karma will shortly be neutered to prevent any unwanted pregnancies in the future. And then she’ll be ready to go to her new home where we know she’ll become a wonderful addition to the lucky family that adopts her.
