Stray dog's fresh start

Happy-go-lucky Vinnie’s tail barely stopped wagging after arriving at Blue Cross.

But his friendly disposition is all the more remarkable given the sad circumstances in which the stray dog was found, and the health ups and downs he’s endured since.

The wire-haired dachshund cross, thought to be around five years old, was found roaming the streets all alone and taken to a local vet.

After spending the mandatory seven days in council kennels, during which time nobody came to claim him, he found himself in the care of our Hertfordshire rehoming centre. It must have been such a confusing time for the sweet dog.

Vinnie was in terrible discomfort with sore skin around his scrotum area, requiring various treatments and tests. It quickly improved and it's hoped that neutering him will further alleviate any further issues.

He’s also shown signs of joint problems. But as this doesn't cause him pain, it will be managed with medication when needed.

Emily Le Roux, Pet Welfare Assistant and one of Vinnie’s main handlers, says: “He’s such a happy little boy.”

After 64 days in our care, Vinnie tail-wagged himself into the loving home he needed - and hasn't looked back since.
